Thanks! The doupioni silk is so beautiful I just want to make something out of it, and this is a great tutorial. I'm quite inspired by your wrap/shrug.

I think your wedding dress will look lovely any way you choose to place the grainline (horizontal or vertical). However, when your ar cutting out the pattern, long cuts that go with the grainline will cause the fabric to come apart at the edge easily. Take care to overcast the edges as soon as you cut out the dress, to minimize the raveling. There is also the danger that when there is tugging on the seam, the fabric next to that seam has a greater chance of fraying. That is why most clothing made out of this silk has the grainline going horizontal. I considered making my green dress with the line running vertically (to have a slimming effect), but decided to play it safe instead. That said, as you are only wearing this dress once, a horizontal grainline should be ok if you take extra care to overcast the edges of the fabric and reinforce the seams. If you are worried, you can play it safe and orient the grainline horizontally. It will look great either way. I hope this helps.

I'm sewing a wedding gown out of dupioni and I was thinking about having the lines go vertical. Considering your experience with dupioni how do you think this would look on a dress like McCalls 4491 (http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m4491-products-414.php?page_id=915&search_control=display&list=search) with the long, full flowing and rippled skirt.

Thanks
